About Josh
Josh Threlkeld is a songwriter and performer with credits throughout the United States. His “Acoustic Soul” style finds root in the loves and sadness of common men and women, and it lifts their spirits through the contagious energy of his performance. Each song tells a story and invokes a heartfelt tenderness.
The artist, Bill Harrison, describes him as having “the lyrical complexity of Bob Dylan and the rhythmic variations of Paul Simon, all with soulful vocals that really connect,” and it is this connection with the audience that separates Threlkeld from others.
Performing regularly on stages since the age of 12 as a singer and trumpet player, Josh was exposed to a wide range of styles and the differing audiences that accompany them (from Jazz/Rock hits in NY Central Park to Gospel/Country standards in Nashville, TN) but, more importantly, Threlkeld clued-in to those qualities that audiences across the US share. Now he incorporates this experience into each song.
Although Josh’s songs are primarily Acoustic/Soul/Rock, he has won awards in other genres, including the 29th annual GMA (Gospel Music Association) awards. His premier CD release, For Starters, was completed in 2008, and is available from the producer. Because of the CD’s quick success, he is recording a second album scheduled to be released in the Summer of 2009.
Today, Josh Threlkeld has a local following that’s outgrown the venues where it was built (High Tone, Peabody Hotel, Neil's, Full Moon Club, Java Cabana, Cafe' Francisco, Handy Park, Otherlands etc...) and had to rent out the Robinson Gallery for his CD release show, Feb. ’09, which filled beyond capacity and nearly sold out the first printing. Relating across cultures and ages is what gives this music such momentum, and the well-crafted lyrics give it purpose.
